Management Team

Each member of our Senior Management team has an extensive knowledge of the club and as a collective unit aims to continually improve the experience of each and every person associated with BRFC.


General Manager

Derek brings over 30 years of golf club experience, which includes 17 years working overseas, and is tasked with bringing all departments together to work for the common goal of continually improving the membership experience at Bahrain Rugby Football Club.

Derek will be seen regularly throughout the club and personally looks forward to welcoming you the next time you visit BRFC.


Director of Rugby

Louie Tonkin hailing from Wales in the UK is our Head of Rugby and Performance. Louie is a WRU/ UKCC Level 4 qualified coach and one of the few coaches with this qualification in the Gulf.

Working previously as Director of Rugby at Welsh Premiership Clubs Carmarthen Quins and Pontypool RFC and also acting as Head of Rugby at the prestigious Cardiff University for 2 years. Louie is Head Coach of our 1st team here in Bahrain and also drives our internal CPD performance program for our aspiring coaches.


Sponsorship and Communications Manager

Having graduated from an International Business School in Marketing, Carine has devoted almost 15 years of her career to Marketing and Branding strategies for several multinational companies, such as BNP Paribas, Veolia, EDF Suez.

At BRFC, she is in charge of Marketing and Communications; highlighting our players and activities and taking part in improving the services offered to our members. Her responsibilities also include the management of our relations with the numerous sponsors of the club, ensuring they enjoy the best experience and exposure with club.


Clubhouse Manager

Steve is the Clubhouse & Events Manager focusing on developing and enhancing activities and hospitality services within the club.

Steve is a certified WSET level 1 & 2 from London, and a sports enthusiast. His passion for sports, fun and parties sets him as ‘The Man’ for his skills and experience in creating atmosphere and camaraderie through the events he’s organized and managed.

He loves tennis, squash, scuba diving, and music, and recently has enjoyed becoming a culinary wannabe.


Facilities Manager

Having been on the Island since the late 80s Bob has been a huge part of the club through its formative years and beyond. His initial association with the club as a player was quickly augmented with joining the Committee on which he served in most roles until resigning as Chairman in 2006 to become the Club’s Manager.

Bob’s role as Facilities Manager sees him continuing to do what he loves most in developing our facilities to be able to host as many sport and social activities as possible.


Sports Coordinator

Lindsey is responsible for the day to day management of all sports activities at the club. He is in charge of pitch hire, kit and equipment as well as heading up the organisation of various sporting events and tours.

Lindsey is in his second full season with the BRFC First XV. Before Bahrain, Lindsey came to us from his hometown club Hawick RFC and he had represented the South of Scotland, Scotland U20’s and the Scotland Club XV.



Gilphi has served as the Club’s Senior Accountant for a number of years now and adds the financial management angle to all of our operations.

Often in the Background Gilphi’s role sees him having an input into most everything we do and as a result, he has managed to put countless things in place saving the club a small fortune annually.
