SENIOR RUGBY

Bahrain Rugby Football Club quite simply put, is historically the regions most successful rugby club bar none. Having dominated the early years of the regions competitions, the club provided a majority of players to the Arabian Gulf’s teams prior to their disbandment. Now, after a few years struggling in the rugby wilderness, Bahrain RFC has committed firmly towards restoring themselves to the top of the tree, having taken on professional coaching and medical support, as well as recruiting players from across the globe. In the last few seasons, Bahrain RFC’s 1st Team, 2nd Team and Veterans teams have re-established themselves as contenders for silverware in all of the regions competitions.

SENIOR SQUADS

DIRECTOR OF RUGBY AND HEAD COACH: LOUIE TONKIN

The Bahrain RFC 1st XV and their stablemates the Firbolgs (2nd XV) both train together twice per week. The coaching is geared towards the two side’s entry to their competitive regional leagues, such as the West Asia Premiership and the Gulf Conference. Specialised blocks of training also take place leading up to the regions 7’s, 10’s and 15s tournaments.

Training is officially 7.30pm until 9.00pm on Monday and Wednesday evenings with video analysis and additional conditioning sessions being held on a regular basis.

VETERANS RUGBY SQUAD

HEAD COACH: JIM ROWARK

The ‘Golden Oldies’ is a squad made up of the club’s more senior players, with the official qualification being that they are over the age of 35. A club within a club, the G.O’s never fail to support anything and everything going on, and can be seen entering events across the region as well as touring annually.

Local Rugby consists of a sequence of friendly games with visiting navy sides, as well as those from across the bridge in Saudi Arabia. Training is officially 7.00pm until 8.30pm on Monday and Wednesday evenings, however this is at a far more sedate pace and often joins with the Social Touch Rugby sessions to round off.

GENERAL POLICIES

Each Player must have completed the Clubs Sports Waiver form and paid the relevant sports fees prior to participation in any activity.
Each Player will be issued a club training top to be used at each training session, with playing kits made available from the club’s central stock for tournaments and matches.
Each Coach will have different methods of organising and communicating with their groups, these can include Teamer, Basic Email etc, please ensure that Parents introduce themselves to the coach and get access to the relevant information.
Any trips overseas will be organised by our sports department at an additional cost, the club does its best to contribute towards these trips and will publicise this in advance.
